BIOGRAPHY

KILKIL is a free synth punk trio born in 2012 on La Réunion Island, with Pascale (bass/lead vocals), Charlou (synths/sax/vocals) and Johny (drums).

« Rusty bases, furious wind arrangements, a menacing obscurantist halo obscuring everything and a sticky retrofuturistic sensibility that marks Kilkil's proposal with a different specificity, coming from the past. Between the free, the avantgarde and the punk with an old Atari console aftertaste.» [Monkey Week - 2018].

« A wonderfully bizarre construct of low-toned, left-field sound » [Skye Mallac, Texx And The City, SA, 2016]

"Bizarroïd Electro-punk flirting with hardcore and free-jazz" [Digit #67 Sylvain Coulon]

A hyperactive trio

After 2 tours in South Africa in 2014 and 2016, year 2018 was intense for KILKIL: a tour in South Africa in January  (Johannesburg, Pretoria, Stellenbosch, Cape Town), a tour in France 24 july-4 august (Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Clermont-Fd, Montpellier, Toulouse, Marseille), and a tour in Spain 23 November - 2 December (with 2 concerts at the music market Monkey Week in Sevilla and gigs in Sevilla, Alicante, Valencia, Barcelona). Kilkil was on tour again in 2019 in France / Belgium from the 23d may to the 1st june 2019, with great gigs in le Rockerill (Charleroi) and Le Magneto (Bayonne). Another France / Belgium tour was organized in 2022 (10-28th may).

After their first live demo-EP ‘Kilpat’rock’ in 2013, KILKIL recorded a studio EP «For You» out in July 2014. In 2016 the new 6-titles EP «Speed» was released on 10’ blue transparent vinyl with Maudit Tangue label, with a cover signed by the artist Hippolyte. A new title "Ebola" was released in December 2017 on the compilation Maudit Tangue #4 (indian ocean rock) and KILKIL recorded in September 2017 during a residency at Kabardock two new titles for a split CD split with their Spanish homonyms Kill Kill ! out on the 31st August 2018 on the Maudit Tangue and Miel de Moscas (Spain) labels. Their new LP « In Vain » was released on Maudit Tangue in January 2019.The cover design is by Conrad Botes (Bitterkomix, South Africa). The new KILKIL album "Clermont-Ferrand" has been released on the 23d of October 2021, on Rockerill Records and Maudit Tangue with another great cover design by Conrad Botes.

"The 4 titles of "For You" are short, direct, creative, and carry a punk and garage energy  [...] Less influenced by punk, « Speed » reveals all the range of Kilkil's talent" [Blitz !#18].

Their latest offering is “Speed”, a 6-track EP swimming in low-key distortions and grinding, punk-infused baselines" [Skye Mallac -Texx And The City-2016]

« The sound has gained aggressiveness, ../.. and lies right between Devo and The Horrorist ../..and Pascale’s voice reminds the one of Lene Lovitch, for our great pleasure » [Blitz #27 – 2018 about the EP Reunion Split]

Kilkil likes to play with references ("Ein, Zwei, Polizei") and surprises us by its mixtures: drums and electro rhythms together, saxophone with a Post Punk touch, which work here thoroughly!
Better than a discovery: one of my big musical shocks of 2021! (Bertrand Tappaz, Voix de Garage/Clermont-Ferrand album).

Clermont-Ferrand is a 8-tracks between post-punk and nervous 80’s indus, all in oscillations and sinusoidal loops, raw beats and basic sounds. Kilkil shows that electronic music can be as aggressive as it is hypnotic.(Eric, W-Fenec)

"Kilkil started playing and my ears perked up and listened intently as they had never heard such a killer amalgamation before [...] Kilkil blasted through their synth punk set with a demanding presence, elements of shoegaze in places and in your face punk in others, a band with a great dynamic, and completely unique!" [THE GRIND RADIO -Coly Verdelli-01/2016]
